Getting
to Hydra From Mainland Greece
Most people fly into Athens
International Airport.
Once through customs, you leave the
arrivals hall to take a taxi or the E96 Express Airport Bus to the Athens port
of PIRAEUS.
A taxi takes up to four people and costs
approximately 20-30 euros. The journey takes anything from 30 mins to 1 hour
depending on traffic and the time of day. There might be a queue but it moves
quickly. Ask to be put down at Piraeus to go to Hydra.
The E96 Express Airport Bus takes about
45 minutes and costs 3 euros per person. Buses go at least every 20 minutes all
day and night. You get off at the terminus at Piraeus where the bus stops before
turning round to do the return trip back to the airport.
At Piraeus you will get a Flying Dolphin
or Cat, Ferry or Euroseas Catamaran. Euroseas' website is www.Euroseas.com
and has all their prices and timetable so you can book online in advance.
Getting to Koutouzis House on Hydra
Koutouzis House is a managed by the owner of the small pension
next door. Zoe will meet you at the house and show you around. Throughout your
stay, she will be on hand to help you, although you will find a folder in the
house full of information to help you.
You will need to let me know what time you will arrive on the
island so that I can tell Zoe an approximate time to meet you at the house.
When you land on the island you will need to hire a donkey to
carry your bags to the house. If you ask for Koutouzis House (or Ingeborg's
house in Kamini) most of the donkey men will know where to take you. If they
seem unsure, ask for Zoe Gardalinou's pension in Kamini.
Donkeys cost about €15 each to get from the port to the
house. They carry 2 suitcases and a couple of pieces of hand-luggage.
You simply follow the donkeys along the coast road to the
house.
Alternatively, you can hire a water taxi to take you round to
Kamini harbour. Water taxis normally take 8 people from the main port for a cost
of €10. But with luggage for potenitally 10 people, you might need two taxis.
Then you simply carry the bags up from the jetty to the house. It's not too far
but not advised if you have very heavy bags.
