to Koutouzis House on Hydra
From the street you enter a paved courtyard that is planted
with flowering and scented shrubs as well as some citrus trees.
Stairs from the courtyard lead up to the main roof terrace
with its grape vine and a good selection of out door furniture.
The views from the roof terrace are of the sea looking across
to the Peloponnese and the other Saronic islands.
The sunsets, especially on hazy summer's evenings are
breath-taking, making this terrace one of the nicest places to gather for an
evening drink.
There
are five double bedrooms each with mosquito nets and fans.
One of the bedrooms, is on the upper floor off the roof
terrace and has an en-suite shower room and kitchenette.
There is a family shower room on the lower floor for the other
rooms.
A full sized cot is available if you are travelling with a
baby. There is also a 2nd cot (collapsible sort) that you can put up if
necessary.
In the dining room the large square table can be pulled
out from the table to comfortably seat 8 if you come out of season and can't use
the terrace.
The living room has plenty of seating and a TV, please feel
free to bring your own portable CD player as there isn't one in the house.
The
kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal for a family if you prefer to
dine in. You'll find a full sized oven with 4 ring hob, larder fridge/freezer
and double sink.
Our house is large and spacious but not a luxury holiday home. It has all the
basic essentials, is simplistic and primitive (for example we don't have
matching mugs and have lots of odd glasses, also the wiring is only single phase
so there's a tendency for the fuses to trip if you have all the lights and fans
on at the same time as the cooker!) but the beds are comfortable and it's well
cleaned. There's no air-conditioning but we do have fans. The house doesn't
have central heating and so in winter it's difficult to heat and for that reason
we limit the number of winter guests to 4 staying in the main house and not
using the upper floor. Having told you the draw backs, we can assure you that
Koutouzis House is a delightful traditional Greek island holiday home that's
perfect if you want to relax and unwind with you family for a vacation you will
never forget.
